Point In Time Count 2026
The point in time count is the one day per year where, across the nation, we take a census of the homeless population. It’s the number of homeless people in our community, on ONE night near the end of January; a day chosen by each community.
Volunteers are needed!
Santa Rosa and Escambia County residents can help secure critical funding and inform public policy to help end homelessness by volunteering with the Point in Time Count.
The initiative is an annual, national event that provides a snapshot of those experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in the two counties.

Why?
The purpose of the PIT count is to:
- Gather demographics on who is homeless in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, to better serve our community.
- PIT counts are required to receive funding from HUD, the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- Compare this year’s data with previous data, to improve at preventing and ending homelessness.
Who?
The Point in Time Count takes a census of all people that don’t have a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence:
- Living in a place not meant for human habitation
- Living in a shelter designated to provide temporary living arrangements
- Living in an institution for 90 days or less AND, immediately before that, lived in a shelter or place not meant for human habitation
